ahmadinejad visits new york (and pisses off the usual enemies of free speech)

Go to fullsize imageMuch-reviled Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to speak at Columbia University tomorrow and his presence on US soil has got conservative and white Jewish blood reaching a boiling point.  He has already had his request to lay a wreath at the site of the 9/11 false flag attacks denied by the NYPD (supposedly because of the construction Silverstein Properties is engaged in there) while in New York for the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

The anger of white supremacist America is astonishing, as they find yet another man of color upon which to cast all of their racist bile.  The Bush regime, fascist neo-cons, and their corporate media assistants have been very effective at demonizing Ahmadinejad, twisting his statements about Israel through deliberate mistranslation, and continually claiming (as they did with Iraq) that Iran is planning to produce nuclear weaponry (even though no one in Iran’s government has such stated such intentions).

Lee Bolinger, president of Columbia University, has come under withering criticism for inviting the president of Iran, and even felt the need to issue a statement explaining why he will not censor open dialogue and speech simply because the fascist contingent in America want him to do so.

As is the norm, American outrage is tempered by the fact that this outrage is always undermined by stunning hypocrisy and notions of Anglo-exceptionalism.  While complaining that Iranian-made weapons are being used to kill American interlopers in occupied Iraq, Americans conveniently ignore the fact that it was American-made weapons which Saddam used to killed hundreds of thousands of Iranians during the eight-year war between those Middle Eastern countries (during which time Saddam used chemical weapons on Iranians and Kurds with US blessing).  Because the American media is averse to giving background and context when doing news stories, many Americans are ignorant of the fact that the US supported Iraq during its war with Iran.Mugabe and Ahmadinejad

I’ll admit that I’m a fan of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.  He speaks out against American fascism and empire, and he is working to form alliances with leaders in countries around the world who reject the notion of American exceptionalism and white supremacy (most notably Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe).  The right-wing racists of America don’t want people like Ahmadinejad to be heard at all because they want to be able to speak for that person, put words in their mouth, and generally make as much use of propaganda as possible to further their belligerent policies; you can’t do that when someone answers your inquiries personally.
