michael vick & the venom of white america

vickSo, football star Michael Vick is being accused of participating in dog-fighting on property he owns, and as with the Bobby Cutts, Jr. case, racist white people are preparing the lynch mob once again before Vick has even had a chance to defend himself against the charges.  The punishment has already begun, with mega-corporation Nike suspending Vick’s contract without pay (with the option to restart it pending the outcome of the case; Vick should tell Nike to stuff their contracts up their collective rectums and start making his own brand of athletic wear like Stephon Marbury).

The Human Society and PETA (those two bastions of Blackness) have already started petitions urging the NFL’s commissioner to suspend Vick without pay pending the outcome of the trial (which could take forever to run its course).  As a former vegetarian who has traditionally sympathized with PETA’s causes, it is situations like these that lay bare the vast divide between white and Black people who share common eating habits.  No one who is not totally sadistic likes dog fighting, but white-dominated media has been busy trying to portray dog fighting as a Black (“urban”) phenomenon undertaken by “gang members” (i.e., Black and Latino males).vick going to court

We’ll see what happens, but once again, white America has shown that they wholeheartedly believe that Black males are ALWAYS guilty of whatever offense they are accused of.  I hope that Vick is not guilty, but should he be, he should receive whatever punishment fits the crime.  I’ll sample some of the racist vitriol coming from white folks over the Internet in the days to come, and probably post some here for us all to see.

Additionally, it has long been recognized inside the Black community that our white neighbors typically show more compassion and love for their pets than they show for humans who happen to be Black.  The combination of a young, wealthy Black man accused of animal cruelty on one side and dogs on the other is too much for most white Americans to stomach, and their dormant “lynch him!” genes have kicked in full force.

  1. I agree that it is unfair that Vick has been been found guilty in the court of public opinion before he has had his day in a court of law. I do not, however, agree that public opinion is based on race in this case. The same outrage would be there if Peyton Manning were charged with animal cruelty. The tipping point comes in sports scandals when they draw interest and outrage from people like me who are neither sports fans nor racist. There are many more pet owners than there are football fanatics, and collectively the pet owners have much more clout. I am not refering to PETA and Humane Society activists. I am talking about ordinarily uninvolved parents and grandparents who buy Nikes, football jersies, and posters for the kids who look up to sports stars from every race. Who would want a child to wear a jersey or put up a poster of a probable animal abuser?

  2. I’m really anxious to see what will happen with Michael Vick. Even if he’s found innocent, a lot of people are still going to think he’s guilty because of who he is. Half of the nation already assumes he’s guilty already. Be sure to comment on who you would rather have as your starting safety, Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu at http://alltalksports.wordpress.com/

  3. The problem here is not dogfighting with Vick or taking steroids with Bonds. The problem is that when black people do something wrong white people use that questionable behavior to unleash the full fury of their racial hatred toward black people in general. The so-called crimes of black people provide the fuel, oxygen and heat needed to bring white rage into full flame. There is no way whites would be as angry if this had been Peyton Manning. If you seriously believe that then there is something very wrong with your view of the world. In other words, you must be white yourself.

The evidence does seem to be very damning but that’s not why white people rushed to judgment. They rushed to judgment because black people are guilty until proven innocent. Actually I take that back. Black people are just guilty period. OJ is still guilty to many white people who still refuse to accept the blame for this flawed injustice system. To me this seems like a minor crime and I love dogs. Dogs that can be bred this way should be banned from public ownership. It’s like having a lion or a crocodile for a pet. I just wonder who the next big, black boogeyman will be for white people but we’ll have to wait until Bonds breaks Aaron’s record first. That one will take months to die down.

  4. Mr. Thompson,
If a white person posted comments, about black people, like your about whites, they would be proclaimed as racist.
I am white, I am not racist nor have I rushed to judgement in the Vick case.
Racism is a problem with both races and it is wrong always!

  5. WHY IS IT THAT EVERY TIME SOMEONE AFRICAN AMERICAN DOES SOMETHING WRONG IT ALWAYS TURNS INTO AN ISSUE ABOUT RACE? FORGET THE FACT THAT THEY HAD COMMITED A CRIME. BY THIS LOGIC WE SHOULD LET PEOPLE GO BASED ON RACE. I GET TIERED OF HEARING IT! THE POINT SHOULD BE RIGHT AND WRONG NO MATTER WHAT RACE YOU ARE. LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE. HE WAS OBVIOUSLY WRONG. THE REASON THAT THESE ISSUES DO NOT SEEM AS BIG WHEN ITS A WHITE PERSON ARE BECOUSE PEOPLE LEAVE IT ALONE. YEAH. HE WAS A PIECE OF TRASH BURN HIM. NOBODEY STANDS OUT SIDE AND PICKETTS FOR THEM, SO THERE IS NO CONTRAVERSY TO COVER. READING ALOT OF THESE BLOGS IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS ALOT OF HATERED TOWARDS WHITE PEOPLE. IF ITS A RACE ISSUE, FROM READING THIS IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING BOTH WAYS. THE CONCENTRATION SHOULD BE TO MAKE RACEIST PEOPLE FEEL LIKE SHIT AND IMBARESSED NOT FUEL THE FIRE!
